E-mail us at mgluck@thevoguecity.com Consumers tend to make straightforward New Year resolutions: Spend less, save more and pay down debt. This year, it appears retailers want to change just one thing...their bottom line. The tried-and-true methods aren't working anymore as consumers learn to resist the urge to buy, so merchants are starting their own trends. According to Bloomberg, consumer spending stalled in December, with a rise of just 0.1 percent, as Americans took advantage of last...
Click to read more » Through the ages, women have never had a lack of complaints about the inequalities between men and women. Particularly when it comes to romance, dating and age, there's always been a lot to complain about. I wish I could say that I am not about to contribute to that litany of gripes, but oh no, I'm about to jump right in.
So, this whole "Cougar" thing. I wouldn't mind if that term got lost in the Bronx Zoo and was never heard from again. Or was shot...

The story of the Site
17 March 2008
“Move Over, Carrie Bradshaw! New Website Bringing New Yorkers High Fashion for Less: Found4Less.com Offering ‘Sex in the City’ Styles at Bargain Basement Prices.” That’s how it all started: the idea of a webserial called ‘Corner Booth’ that followed five young women in a more real New York than the one depicted in Sex and the City. We then morphed into ‘THEVOGUECITY.COM’, a more grown-up site that keeps the Corner Booth and the focus on well-priced fashion, but is dedicated to a wider range of readers, including the more affluent, forty-something crowd. We are still concerned with value, and reporting bargains is our main duty; but we follow the trends, and we want to bring real, unsponsored Expert Advice in our apparel, shoes and beauty categories. And as the muse of this site is a cheerful boxer called Socrates, we also have an Advice for Pets section for those of you with a pooch as pampered as ours. In our Bargain News, we keep you abreast of all upcoming sample sales; and we take pride in being the only site that actually reports from the sample sale event. We brave all weathers to attend each of them (from the day they open), to let you know if they’re worth taking the train for. And you can read about sample sales of the past in our Archived Sample Sales section. Life could get kind of tense here, so we keep a cheerful note and spice things up with a little laughter. So, in an effort to give our readers a say in the lives of their favorite Corner Booth characters, we’re also running a free writing contest. Populated by five New York City fashionistas, our webserial is the perfect venue for Sex and the City types to showcase both their fandom and their writing talents. See The Corner Booth Contest/Experiment for more details and information on how to submit your scribblings. We love New York, and we know we’re not alone, so this site pays homage to everything New York, with a particular emphasis on bargains so we can all get more NY for our money. |
