Consumers tend to make straightforward New Year resolutions: Spend less, save more and pay down debt. This year, it appears retailers want to change just one thing...their bottom line. The tried-and-true methods aren't working anymore as consumers learn to resist the urge to buy, so merchants are starting their own trends. According to Bloomberg, consumer spending stalled in December, with a rise of just 0.1 percent, as Americans took advantage of last...

Through the ages, women have never had a lack of complaints about the inequalities between men and women. Particularly when it comes to romance, dating and age, there's always been a lot to complain about. I wish I could say that I am not about to contribute to that litany of gripes, but oh no, I'm about to jump right in. So, this whole "Cougar" thing. Create a lifestyle for your canine
    20 March 2008

What better place for pet fashion than in New York City - one of the world’s fashion capitols? The premise of Canine Styles - whose tag line is “A lifestyle for dogs” (who knew that dogs needed a “lifestyle?!”) - is that , in the words of the founder, “”There are people who will spend money much more easily on their pet than they would on themselves.”  Chad Conway the co-owner of Canine Styles recently revealed this to New York Fido, but I’m not sure it’s much of a revelation for people who love their precious pups like some people love children. I definitely count myself among this group and yet when Conway says “much more,” he means MUCH more.

This is designer dog apparel at it’s finest. And when something’s been featured in Vogue, O Magazine, In Style, The New York Times Style Section and on the Today Show, you know it’s probably good - and also that it probably doesn’t come cheap. Or if it once did, it’s not going to any more. Such is the case with Canine Styles - a click on one puffer coat, for example, shows that you’ll be paying $85 to keep your canine warm in this particular jacket.

In a city where the lifestyle is non-stop, it’s probably no real surprise that owners create lifestyles for their dogs as well. Complete with pampering, designer clothes, gourmet treats and rigorous grooming - another specialty of Canine Styles.

If you think about the fact that pets ARE like our children, well then, what’s $85 for a good winter coat, really?
