Consumers tend to make straightforward New Year resolutions: Spend less, save more and pay down debt. This year, it appears retailers want to change just one thing...their bottom line. The tried-and-true methods aren't working anymore as consumers learn to resist the urge to buy, so merchants are starting their own trends. According to Bloomberg, consumer spending stalled in December, with a rise of just 0.1 percent, as Americans took advantage of last...

Through the ages, women have never had a lack of complaints about the inequalities between men and women. Particularly when it comes to romance, dating and age, there's always been a lot to complain about. I wish I could say that I am not about to contribute to that litany of gripes, but oh no, I'm about to jump right in. So, this whole "Cougar" thing. I wouldn't mind if that term got lost in the Bronx Zoo and was never heard from again. Or was shot...

    Brooks Brothers Warehouse Sale
    6 March 2009

Brooks Brothers, the oldest surviving men’s clothier in the United States, is a New York institution. This was my first-ever trip to the headquarters. Upon entering, I felt as though I was transported to another world. The store has the aura of an old England haberdashery.  Nevertheless, Brooks Brothers is no longer just for uptight Republicans, investment bankers, and Chuck Bass. With long cashmere coats priced under $300 and classic navy blazers for $99, this is a sale any man can appreciate. The crowd was very diverse, which just goes to show that a classic suit is crucial for every type of man.
What struck me most about this sale was the organization. It felt nothing like a woman’s sample sale. Note: While Brooks Brothers does carry women’s clothing, this sale was strictly a gentlemen’s affair. There were rows and rows of suits, coats, shirts, blazers, tuxedos and so on. But they were all meticulously prearranged, by style color and size. They made it easy for you to get in and get out, something men are very fond of.  The sale is also great because they don’t skimp on service: there was probably one sales associate for every customer there and three separate registers. Brooks Brothers will also do onsite complimentary alterations and tailoring for any purchase. My final piece of advice on this sale is no woman should go alone. I am convinced one of the salesmen had the notion I was shopping for a sugar daddy.
