E-mail us at mgluck@thevoguecity.com Consumers tend to make straightforward New Year resolutions: Spend less, save more and pay down debt. This year, it appears retailers want to change just one thing...their bottom line. The tried-and-true methods aren't working anymore as consumers learn to resist the urge to buy, so merchants are starting their own trends. According to Bloomberg, consumer spending stalled in December, with a rise of just 0.1 percent, as Americans took advantage of last...
Click to read more » Through the ages, women have never had a lack of complaints about the inequalities between men and women. Particularly when it comes to romance, dating and age, there's always been a lot to complain about. I wish I could say that I am not about to contribute to that litany of gripes, but oh no, I'm about to jump right in.
So, this whole "Cougar" thing. I wouldn't mind if that term got lost in the Bronx Zoo and was never heard from again. Or was shot...

Today, July 14th, was the start of the Alexia Crawford Sample Sale. After second-guessing my navigation skills and double checking the address (35 west 36th street appeared to be more like a construction site than a functioning building), I rode the elevator up to the sixth floor. I was very impressed by the neat and colorful selection of the Alexia Crawford merchandise amidst the off-putting surroundings of the showroom. On display was a vast selection of Hair Accessories (primarily decorative plastic headbands), Flower Brooches, Bracelets, Necklaces, Rings, Clutches, and Handbags. They even had umbrellas and rain boots (shown above) that would’ve certainly come in handy on this gloomy Monday.
There weren’t many pieces that interested me. Most of the jewelry didn’t differ much from the selection that one can find on street side stands or inexpensive jewelry shops throughout New York City— At first glance, I was left unmoved. The beaded necklaces (above) seem to fit the cheap price ($10 a piece)
That being said, some of the merchandise is certainly worth the visit to this relatively small show room. The handbags are a steal (at $25 each, shown above) I particularly like them in the brown, black, and neutral shades. I was also drawn to the colorful bangles (shown above). Now, the most important question addressed in my review of the Alexia Crawford Sample Sale– did I leave empty-handed? Far from it. I left with a white beaded necklace, an oversized ring, a bunch of bracelets and bangles (shown above) — and $52 dollars less in my pocket– Though making a trip to the ATM isn’t necessary, they accept all major credit card. Prices are as follows: Hair Accessories: $4.00
